So much fun so little time

31 Mar

So what better way to spend the easter weekend then back in the place we love. Marks now been a month in the job and it’s been tough going. Up at 5am home at 5pm and working Saturdays. So the easter break came at the right time.
Saturday morning we loaded up the car and head off on the highway. I’d had my hair done on Thursday and thanks to the lack of air conditioning in the car we had to drive really fast with the windows down so needless to say I arrived looking like I’d been pulled through a bush backwards.
So we checked in at the hostel and made our way to build a bear. I’d had my eye on the limited edition Irish bear and I love him.

So after building the bear we decided what better way to spend the afternoon then going up against each other in mini golf. So what did I learn from the mini golf? I do not have the ability to control my temper towards that little ball. There were a few times when I could see mark flinch when i swung for the ball. It was however a great way to spend an hour and we had a laugh. Later that evening we did the Ferris wheel and went for dinner.

The hostel is quite close to the beach but Mark had heard about a beach attached to a creek. It was beautiful. The water was so clear and the sun was shining, great way to spend Easter Sunday. I tried my hand at body boarding but didn’t really have the coordination, I actually manage to trip myself up at times but was quite happy to have a paddle and a swim. Mark on the other hand was out to sea with his board. Few times he came whizzing by me with a massive smile on his face.
By midday we were ready to leave and head for lunch. And where else would we go on a Sunday but the infamous Waxy’s for the $2 steak and it was Delish no better way then to celebrate three months away from home

We’ll return to Brisbane tomorrow after what has been an amazing weekend. It’s hard to believe we’ve been gone from home three months today and with big things to come over the next few months we are really looking forward to it!

One good deed deserves another.

So I first met the wonderful Jenny Conlon when we worked together in Roches Stores. To say she was a fire cracker would be an understatement. From the moment our shifts would start she never stopped talking but my god did she have a fascinating life. I was never sure of it was just cause she talked so fast everything sounded interesting but she could make buying lunch in M&S so dramatic.I remember for my 21st she got me a birthday card with scratch cards in it, before I’d even begun to scratch Jenny had already staked a claim in my winnings, good Karma and all that! Not long after that Jenny decided to move to London and follow her passion of journalism and I opted to stay in Dublin and settle for a job in insurance.
Speaking of good Karma myself and Mark made a pact with the man above that if he managed to get the job we would do a kind favour in return, and that favour belongs to Ms Jenny Conlon.
Jenny is currently preparing to run a marathon to raise much needed funds for hearing dogs for the deaf. We have decided to donate to her cause to help her along the way. By getting funding it will give people with hearing difficulty more freedom and I for one think it’s an excellent cause! I’m so proud of Jenny for the amount of hours she has put in and the dedication she has shown to her charity. She has a charity page for anyone who would like to know more https://www.justgiving.com/jennyconlon/.
Jenny I wish you all the best and know your going to do fab. Looking forward to following all your updates 🙂 xox
Ps I never did win anything on those cards!

You want how much for it??

So it’s official Mark signed all his paperwork and starts the job on Monday. We’re delighted. It’ll be weird being separated having spent the last 6 months literally living in each others pockets.
So once the paper work was signed we were against the clock to find a car. Where we are living at the moment is very close to marks work but no transport goes there so car was our only option. We went from car lot to car lot looking for something cheap and reliable. Car prices are so different out here. Back home you’d pick up a cheap run around no problem out here not so cheap and not so little. The prices for older cars are insane. One lot we went to looked like a total pikey set up and they looked completely dodgy. So we ran outta there pronto.
While on the buses we constantly checked gumtree, continually refreshing the feed.
Bingo, Mark spotted a car and we wanted it. So we made our way across Brisbane to a less pikey looking site. And there was our Camry. Compared to the other cars we’ve driven this thing was like a tank, an automatic tank at that. When we took it on the test drive I could see Mark looking for the clutch. No clutch there buddy keep your foot on the floor.
So we decided we’d take it. Can you believe for a 1996 car it cost us $2250 we made sure to get a warranty with that. I can’t believe when I got my first car a 99 fiesta it only cost me €900.
So the car is home and Mark is ready for his first day. The last week has been completely life changing but I have to admit I am totally loving it 🙂
